About this collection

The Richard B. Parker Nile Watercraft Photographs Collection consists of 75 color photographers donated by former U. S. Ambassador Richard Bordeaux Parker to the Rare Books and Special Collections Library. A majority of the photos document feluccas and other watercraft on the Nile River, though other images show the Sinai, Saint Catherine's Monastery as well as rural Egyptian life.

Mr. Parker serverd in Cairo from 1965-1967; which may be when the photos in the collection were taken. He later served as Ambassador to Lebanon, Algeria, and Morocco. He was also co-author of A Practical Guide to Islamic Monuments in Cairo with Robin Sabin, first published by AUC Press in 1974 as well as several other books on the Middle East and North Africa.
